AIK Win Allsvenskan 2009

AIK players were met by hundreds of their supporters on Kungsgatan in Stockholm

Fans of AIK were still celebrating on Monday after their team won the 2009 Football Allsvenskan with a dramatic end of season win over title rivals IFK Göteborg in Gothenburg’s Gamla Ullevi stadium on Sunday. Going into the game, the Stockholm club needed to avoid defeat to clinch the title while IFK Göteborg knew that only a win would see them get their hands on the trophy in front of their home fans.

It was IFK Göteborg who went into the half-time break leading by a goal to nil after Tomas Olsson steered team mate Erik Lund's shot into AIK's goal with his chest. After the break, AIK hit back through Brazilian Antonio Flavio, and then five minutes from time captain Daniel Tjernström slotted the winner, much to the delight of the travelling AIK support.

It was AIK's first title since 1998 and 11th in total and coach Mikael Stahre, the youngest coach in the Allsvenskan at 34 and in only his first season in charge was delighted " Now we shall party!

The players later celebrated with fans back in central Stockholm.
