Swine Flu Toddler's Death Investigated

On the day when Sweden began vaccinating children against Swine flu it's emerged that the country's leading paediatric hospital is investigating the death of a 3 year old boy infected with the virus.

The parents of three year old Simon told the tabloid Aftonbladet on Monday that they pleaded with doctors at the Astrid Lindgren hospital to take in their son last Wednesday only to be turned away. They say they were told that their son had a virus which would leave the body naturally. The toddler, whom the parents say was suffering from all the symptoms associated with Swine flu, was rushed back to hospital two days later on Friday with breathing difficulties but died in the early hours of Saturday morning. Tests on the boy for the Swine Flu virus came back positive on Sunday.

News agency TT writes that the three year old was in one of the risk groups at the front of the queue for the Swine flu vaccine but hadn't been vaccinated.

A spokesperson from the Astrid Lindgren hospital said that as of yet it was unclear whether Swine Flu had cause the boy's death. The cause of death is being investigated.
