Reinfeldt Disappointed with Climate Talks

Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt is disappointed with the outcome of Tuesday’s European-American climate talks in Washington. Referring to the joint communiqué on the meeting, Reinfeldt said: “This is not the kind of document we want to see at the upcoming climate summit in Copenhagen.”

The joint statement does not contain binding commitments for any of the goals to protect world climate. Both Reinfeldt and U.S. President Barack Obama said that efforts to reach tangible results in Copenhagen had to be doubled now. The president of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, said he hopes that the Copenhagen summit will lead to a frame agreement to secure future steps towards less greenhouse gas and carbon dioxide emissions.
