Bildt Calls For Powerful EU Head

Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt says he hopes that EU leaders meeting in Brussels Thursday evening pick someone that will be able to be a force on the international political stage, but fears this won't be the case.

Writing on his blog, Bildt claims that many foreign ministers around the EU share the same opinion, but accept that Swedish Prime Minister Reinfeldt, who is in charge of the discussions, has to accept the will of the majority of the other government leaders.

Bildt says it would he a historic failure if EU leaders were unable to pick a high-profile president of the European Council to represent the continent abroad.
