H1N1 Vaccine Delayed Again

Another delivery of swine flu vaccine to Sweden has been delayed.

Glaxo Smith Kline has the planned delivery of 460,000 doses of the H1N1 vaccine should arrive as planned at the beginning of the week. But a further 658,000 doses scheduled to arrive several days later will be late, and not arrive until the following week. The drug company says external quality controls have taken longer than it expected.

Everyone in the country is covered by Sweden’s planned vaccination program. So far only children and members of risk groups are supposed to be receiving the shots. The general public is due to be vaccinated starting at the beginning of December.

It’s unclear how the impending delay will affect that schedule, but the authorities say this will slow down the vaccination program.
