Fire Outside Home for Refugee Children
Updated 2:22 PM
A pile of leaves was set on fire Saturday night outside a controversial new facility for unaccompanied refugee children in Vellinge in southern Sweden.
Police are treating it as a hate crime.
The anti-immigrant Sweden Democrat party held a protest against the facility in Vellinge Sunday. But the 20 or so members who showed up were often shouted down by twice as many counter-demonstrators.
The conservative Moderate head of the local council originally spoke out strongly against the facility, but was forced to withdraw his objections by the national party leadership.
