Compulsive Gamblers in Sweden Double

The Swedish national health institute has released new figures showing that the number of compulsive gamblers in Sweden has increased dramatically in the last decade - with a doubling of the number of young men involved between the ages of 18 and 24 at the card tables, slot machines, roulette wheels or horse races.

Some interviewed compulsive gamblers confess they can be at it for days in a row – hardly sleeping and eating – losing their jobs, contact with families and the desire to live.

Some 44% of the 9 million population here in the ages between 16 and 84 gamble at least once a month.
