State Responsible for Integration

The Swedish government is proposing that the state employment office takes over full responsibility for the integration of immigrants and refugees from the local authorities.

The aim is to make greater efforts to find jobs for immigrants as a basic step for integration into Swedish society.

At the same time, new statistics show that 8 out of 10 newly-arrived immigrants have not found any jobs through the state employment services.

Both the government and local authorities have been sharply criticized for the failure of integration policies. Observers arn that the failure to integrate immigrants and refugees here and their high unemployment has increased anti-immigrant feelings in some circles in Sweden.

It also looks like this will help an anti-immigrant party gain parliamentary seats for the first time in elections coming up next September.
