Cafes were the most likely to cheat on taxes.

Businesses Evade Millions of Taxes

The Swedish Tax Agency has uncovered extensive tax evasion among small business owners. According to Swedish Radio News, manipulated cash registers at cafés, pizzerias, flower shops, minimarts, and opticians have contributed to upwards of 70 million US dollars of lost tax revenues.

In the biggest such investigation ever undertaken in Sweden, over 500 businesses were checked over the course of one-and-a-half years in large and small cities alike.

Of all the different branches, café owners were most likely to engage in tax evasion. Manipulated cash registers were found among 180 of the 200 cafés checked by the Agency.
