Sweden to Support Forming of Kosovo Security Force

The government has announced that Sweden will financially support the forming of a national security force in Kosovo. A spokesman said that an amount of 700,000 crowns, that is roughly 100,000 dollars, will be transferred from the Swedish military budget to a special NATO fund for Kosovo.

He said this had been decided in preparation of the withdrawal of Swedish troops from the former Yugoslav territory at the year’s end. Since 1999 Sweden has contributed with up to 540 soldiers to the NATO-led KFOR peace force for Kosovo.
