Young Offenders Often Victims of Bullying

6 out of 10 Swedish youths who are prosecuted for crimes of violence have been the victims of bullying at school at some point of their life, according to a new survey carried out by the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention.

The study shows that if something was done about the bullying at an earlier stage fewer youths would turn to violent crime. However, today only 1 out of 10 schools are successful in their prevention programmes and measures against existent bullying.  Few of the methods used are scientifically tested, despite schools putting a lot of money and effort into them, according to the survey.
