"Drug Dealing" Swede in EU Parliament

Bucking against a law that prohibits the sale of snus in Europe, Swedish EU parliamentarian Christofer Fjellner has begun selling the Scandinavian tobacco product in the EU parliament in Strasbourg. Branded a “drug dealer” by local papers, Fjellner says his actions are a symbolic protest against what he sees as an unfair ban.

“Cigarettes are permitted to be sold everywhere in Europe and cigarettes are so much more dangerous than snus. It’s brainless to ban snus while another, more dangerous tobacco product can be sold,” he told Swedish Television News.

Sweden is the only country in the European Union where snus, an air-dried tobacco product similar to American dipping tobacco, is allowed to be sold.
