Healthy 85 Year Olds

New Swedish research indicates that two out of three 85 year year olds can take care of themselves, and feel relatively healthy.

The study from University Hospital in Linköping is based on a questionnaire sent to almost 700 local 85 year olds. Seventy-six percent responded, and of them nearly three in four hadn’t been a hospital patient during the previous year and almost 70 percent said they visited health clinics at most twice a year.

The researcher behind the study tells the newspaper “Östgöta Correpondenten” that the number of healthy 85 year olds is much higher than generally believed, even within the medical community.
