Red Cross Swindlers Indicted

On Friday, three people were indicted for swindling over 1,1 million US dollars from the Swedish Red Cross and the Swedish Cancer Society. One of them used to work for the organisations, the other two were contractors.

The scandal was revealed in May last year, after years of suspicion against the head of a department at the Red Cross. He had been recruited to the organisation in 2004, after having spent seven years as a successful fundraiser at Cancer Society.

The man has since been fired from the Red Cross, which demands 800,000 US dollars back from him. The claims from the Cancer Society amounts to 350,000 US dollars.

The accused risk up to six year in jail.
