Big Freeze to Hit Sweden Again

Published måndag 25 januari 2010 kl 12.05
Icy temperatures are on their way from Russia

After enjoying several days of warmer Winter temperatures, Swedes are bracing themselves once again for another bout of freezing weather all the way from Russia.

Meteorological experts from Sweden's national met office SMHI say temperatures in Russia have tumbled with the capital Moscow experiencing daytime temperatures of -21 celsius and the cold front is moving towards Sweden later this week.

At the start of January, all of Sweden was gripped by a cold snap from Siberia which saw temperatures drop to -20 celsius and even -40 in parts.

In the past week or so, temperatures have risen to more average levels for this time of year but it's been below freezing for every day this month, an unusual occurrance even in this Scandinavian nation.
