Haag Clinches Silver in Dramatic Finish

Anna Haag celebrating with her silver medal

In a dramatic last-minute spurt, Anna Haag skied herself to Sweden’s fourth medal on Friday—a silver in the women’s 15 kilometer cross-country skiathlon.

“I didn’t think that I would manage it and that it would become a fourth place finish, but in the end I thought gosh darn I will get a medal,” she told Swedish Radio Sports after the race.

Norwegian Marit Björgen clinched her second-straight gold in the race, leaving Anna Haag, Norwegian Kristin Steira, and Polish World Cup champion Justyna Kowalzcyk to fight for silver and bronze in the event that combines classic and skating skiing techniques.

“I don’t know where my strength came from. In some way the others were just there, so all I could do was keep going,” Haag said.

Charlotte Kalla, Swedish gold medalist in the 10 kilometer race, ended the race in eighth place.
