Embattled Mayor May Sue Swedish Radio

Malmö's mayor Illmar Reepalu told newspaper Resume on Monday that he is considering suing Swedish Radio program "Good Morning World" for libel after their Sunday broadcast about the current controversy surrounding the Social Democratic politician.

Saying that he lives under threat of violence, he holds that he has received pictures of revolvers in the mail.

"The threat level is even more serious now after [the program’s] initiative against me and reminds me very much of the month before Olof Palme was murdered,” he told the newspaper.

Reepalu has faced harsh criticism after giving the impression that Jews who openly support Israel's policies can only blame themselves for anti-Semitic attacks carried out by members of the Muslim community. The increased number of such hate crimes has incited many Jewish families to leave Malmö for other Swedish cities and even Israel in recent months.
