The 450 square kilometre area where the wind turbines will be built is currently used by the Sami population as pasture for reindeer in the winter. The Government has demanded that the company that builds the wind turbine park finds a way to do so with the smallest possible disturbance for the reindeer industry. If such disturbance does happen, the company will have to compensate the Samis for it.
The Environment Minister Andreas Carlgren says he is confident that it is possible to combine the wind turbine park with grazing reindeer.
The wind power park is expected to produce 8-12 Twh a year.
