Michael J Fox Honorary Doctor At KI
The Canadian actor Michael J Fox is to be made honorary doctor of medicine at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm "in recognition of his work raising funds and awareness for Parkinson's disease".
Fox's research foundation is the world's biggest private organisation for Parkinson research. It has donated over 171 million US dollars since the year 2000, some of which went to Karolinska Institutet.
According to a press release from the Karolinska Institute, Fox has also been a powerful advocate for research freedom and the pursuit of embryonic stem cell-based therapeutic strategies in U.S. Laboratories.
Michael J Fox was himself diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991.
