New Stem Cell Breakthrough

Research by Swedish and Dutch scientists has revealed that stem cells that can create any skin cell type can be found in hair follicles.

The researchers at Stockholm’s Karolinska Institute and the Hubrecht Institute and University Medical Center Utrecht in the Netherlands have succeeded in identifying the stem cell involved, which has never been found before.

They hope their discovery will help find ways to treat wounds and burns, and possibly even skin cancer. Their work is published in the journal “Science”.
