Bishop Wants Independent Review

The Bishop of the Catholic Church in Sweden. Anders Arborelius, wants an independent review of their internal investigation into the case of a priest sexually abusing two young sisters in the end of the 1950-ies and the beginning of the 1960-ies. Arborelius is also prepared to resign if it turns out that it is his fault that the allegations had not been investigated earlier.

One of the sisters, now in her 60-ies told the Catholic Church about it already twenty years ago, and she told the current Bishop Anders Arborelius himself in 2003. On sunday, Arborelius said that he had been given the information as part of his pastoral care, and that it therefore made it difficult for him to know how to progress with the information.

The Catholic Church will now investigate the allegations, but Bishop Arborelius proposes that an independent commission review their findings. He tells the news agency TT that he could imagine that the commission among others include someone from an organisation that supports sexually abused minors, and someone from the government.
