Secret Bank Meeting in Stockholm

Handelsbaken's CEO Pär Boman is not taking part

An extremely low profile organization of European bankers, the IIEB or International Institute for Banking Studies, is holding a meeting here in Stockholm.

But the gathering has come under the glare of unwelcome publicity, as Handelsbanken, one of Sweden’s largest banks, and one of the meeting’s hosts, has left the organization in protest. The bank’s head of information says they are objecting to the secrecy of the meeting during such a time of financial crisis, as well as to the expensive and exclusive meals and other items on the schedule.

We talked to the IIEB’s Secretary General Eddy Wauters on the line from Brussels.
