Priests Call for Equality and Tradition

The planned royal wedding ceremony goes against centuries of Swedish tradition, say church figures. Now nine priests from Lund have written to princess Victoria urging her to drop plans to be 'given away' be her father at the altar.

This version, seen by some as an 'americanisation' of the ceremony contrasts with normal Swedish practise where bride and groom walk down the aisle side by side.

One of the priests, Maria Isberg, says to Swedish Radio that she thinks princess Victoria is a very capable woman, who can make her own way forward and Maria Isberg says that princess Victoria should rather take the opportunity to send out a message about equality.
