Thousands of children and young people can be sexually exploited via the Web, including by being convinced to sell sex, and it's seen as a growing problem in Sweden. Because cases are often unreported and help for victims is difficult to get, there are now calls for a national educational organization dedicated to the issue. It would aid other agencies in identifying young people in need of help.
A dedicated organization could help aid caregivers in providing counseling to victims of sexual exploitation. A reporter told Swedish Public Television news a story which helped illustrate the need for more expertise. She'd received a letter from a girl who was told by her psychologist simply to take all her memories and put them in a box under her bed. Proponents hope a new organization would influence counseling methods.
