Half of Sweden says Yes to Gay Adoption

On Monday Stockholm Pride week begins - and a survey published in tabloid Expressen suggests that Swedes are more positive towards gay couples adopting children.

In the last eight years the amount of Swedes who say that it is ok for same-sex couples to adopt has risen from 17 per cent to 50 per cent.

And the younger the Swede, the more positive they are.

Looking at political sympathies, it is the Green Party whose supporters are most positive - 71 per cent say yes to same-sex couples adopting. The Christian Democrats' supporters are the least positive - only 24 per cent are in favour.

The survey was carried out by Demoskop, which interviewed 2,888 people. The same survey has been carried out every year since 2002, when homosexual adoption was made legal by the Swedish parliament.
