Military May Block New Power Stations

Investments in wind power stations worth billions of dollars are threatened by restrictions set up by the Swedish Armed Forces, according to experts.

The military has evaluated all the planned power stations that are within a 40 kilometre radius of military airports and will present their findings next month. But the industry is already projecting that 1.500 planned wind power stations will be affected by the restrictions.

According to the military the power stations affect fighter jets during take-off and landing and they could also come to change their previous decision to approve some of the planned stations depending on what the study show.

Annika Helker Lundström, from the Swedish Wind Energy organisation, told news agency TT that if the already planned stations are stopped or delayed this would mean higher electricity prices.
