More Gothenburg Corruption Revelations

Published onsdag 29 september 2010 kl 15.35

New revelations have come to light in the ongoing bribery and corruption scandal in Gothenburg city council, involving kick backs from contractors, mainly in the building sector, reports Swedish public television's Uppdrag Gransning programme.

Six separate corruption cases involving up to 30 council officials are currently under investigation in the city.

Critics of the council blame what they call the city’s “culture of cronyism”.

The latest scandal involves allegations of bribery in a SEK 700 million (100 million dollars) contract to replace the city’s electrical metres as well as allegations that a council boss tried to gag a whistle-blower.
