142 gay couples have married in church

During the first 12 months after it became possible for same-sex couples to marry in the Swedish Church, 142 couples have chosen to do so, the news agency TT reports. That can be compared to the total of 20,000 couples that usually marry in church every year.

Before the Synod of the Swedish Church took the decision to change their rules last autumn, gay couples could only receive a "blessing" in the Swedish Church, but had to look outside the church to be "properly" married.
