Berry-pickers to receive compensation

Twenty-eight Thai berry-pickers who lost their summer’s earnings are to receive state compensation.

They were part of a larger group who spent the summer picking berries in the Swedish forests, only to end up virtually penniless after the owner of the company emptied the company's bank account and left the country for an undisclosed location.

The 28 Thais, who have remained in Sweden, will receive around US$ 2000 for every month they worked. It is unclear whether their colleagues who were given free transit back to Thailand, will also be compensated.
