Hundreds suffering from parasite sickness

At least 800 people have become ill and officials believe that it could be due to polluted water in the Östersund area.

This is according to an internet survey by the local council, seeking to get an overview of the problem.

The local environmental head Jari Hitula says that they are still trying to find the source of the pollution, which is made up of a dangerous water-borne parasite.

An international biathlon tournament is happening in Östersund next week and several teams are already in the area. The municipality is keeping them informed and advised on how to stay safe.
