How far off is an AIDS vaccine?

 December 1st is World AIDS Day, an annual event observed since 1988, dedicated to raising awareness of the pandemic caused by the spread of the HIV virus. More than 30 million people are the world are believed to carry the infection, around 5000 here in Sweden.

Ever since the virus was discovered, there have been efforts to find a vaccine. One of the most promising is here in Sweden, a team led by Professor Eric Sandström. We asked him why it’s taken so long to find a vaccine for HIV/AIDS?
