Snow chaos took hold of Arlanda airport last winter as well.

Winter weather spells airport delays

Record cold temperatures for this time of year are putting a crimp in the plans of air-travellers across Sweden.

Fog and ice are leading to major delays at Stockholm's Arlanda airport, where on Thursday morning, just one-third of take-offs and landings were happening.

Arlanda spokesperson, Jan Lindqvist, told news agency TT that travellers can expect 40-minute delays for now, but that the situation could easily worsen as the day progresses.

Meanwhile, way up north in Luleå, slippery runways have meant that residents won't be receiving any airmail today.

Malmö-Sturup Airport in the South was also reporting delays of about an hour as of Thursday morning. Train passengers are not faring any better, as ice buildup on the tracks, along with other problems, have also set rail traffic up to an hour behind schedule.
