Weather continues to plague trains

Updated 11:35 AM

On one of the major travel days of the year, the weather is causing serious problems, especially for rail passengers.

Travellers at Stockholm’s Central Station say many departures on long distance lines have been delayed by hours.

Swedish Radio News reports that around 40 percent of local trains in the southern province of Skåne have been cancelled, and there’s a complete stop in the line between Malmö and Simrishamn.

Around Gothenburg on the West Coast and Norrköping, southwest of Stockholm, some 20 percent of local trains are not running. The Swedish National Railways SJ is referring passengers to its Twitter feed for up-to-date information.

There are delays as well for inter-city bus lines. The weather also resulted in a fallen tree cutting off power Wednesday evening to around 2500 households in Nörrtälje, north of Stockholm, and there were other power failures in nearby Sigtuna and parts of Stockholm itself.
