Prison clinic knew of paedophile's flat

A convicted paedophile undergoing treatment at a closed psychiatric ward in Sundsvall in northern Sweden, was able to get a flat outside the prison clinic. According to Swedish Television's investigative programme Uppdrag Granskning, the staff knew about the flat, but did not intervene. In the mean time, the 44-year-old found new victims - among them a five year old girl - that he sexually assaulted.

He also got the permission from the regional administrative court, which had sought advice from the clinic, that he could visit a friend. But the friend was a three times convicted paedophile himself. None the less, it was seen as appropriate that the two could spend time together during the 44-year-old man's leave.

While he was in his room at the closed ward, he also managed to download large amounts of child pornography from the internet.

In september last year, the man was convicted of owning child-pornography and several cases of sexual assault.

The television programme is broadcast on Wednesday evening.
