Tax evaders come clean

More Swedes than ever before who have funds in foreign tax havens have registered their holdings to the Swedish tax authorities, reports daily Svenska Dagbladet.

Over four hundred contacted the authority last year, a new record. According to the authorities that may mean up to US$45 million in extra income to the state.

New deals between Sweden and former tax havens such as Switzerland, Luxembourg and the Channel Islands have made it possible for the Swedish taxman to trace funds there.

Many of those now declaring their wealth abroad have inherited the money, according to the newspaper.
