Sentences for buying sex to increase

The Swedish government has proposed strengthening its controversial law against buying sexual services. Under the proposed legislation, the maximum prison sentence would double to up to one year in prison.

Sweden and neighboring Norway both have laws where it is legal to sell sex, but not to buy it.

Critics say that while the law has sharply diminished the number of streetwalkers, it has just moved prostitution onto the Internet.
