The metal workers' union has lost 15,600 members

Thousands leave trade unions

Swedish unions continue to shrink. The main federation, blue-collar LO, lost almost 37,000 members last year, and the white-collar TCO lost almost 5,000.

Almost half of the LO's fall is due to a major drop in the IF Metall union, which organises workers in the metal industry. Anders Ferbe at the LO says that a lot of people who have lost their jobs due to the financial crisis have moved to other trades and not kept up their union membership.
