Ship ran aground in Öresund strait

Early on Saturday morning, an 88-metre ship on its way to Latvia ran aground in the narrow Öresund-strait between Sweden and Denmark. The captain of the ship is suspected of drunkenness at sea and has been taken to hospital for tests.

"When the grounding happened, the ship's autopilot was turned on, and according to the captain it must have broken down. An investigation will show if this is correct," Rolf Lindström, inspector at the Transport Authority tells the news agency TT.

The ship did not contain any cargo, and has not leaked out any oil. It was taken to Malmö harbour on Saturday morning for further investigations.
