Lack of jobs could mean rise in drug abuse

The amount of serious drug abuse in Sweden is going to rise seriously in the coming years, says an interim report by government investigator Gerhard Larsson.

He says that his prediction is based on the tough job market for young people, and on the fact that the amount of young women who use drugs is still relatively low - and so could easily rise.

Right now there are about 30,000 people in Sweden who heavily abuse drugs, and Larsson says this will be at 46,000 in ten years, if no action is taken.
