Bert Sundström in Cairo
stabbed thursday

Swedish Cairo reporter moving to new hospital

Swedish Television News reporter Bert Sundström remains in a stable but serious condition in a Cairo hospital, after being stabbed Thursday.

Managing Editor Eva Landahl says he is being moved to another hospital, as his current hospital is next to Tahrir Square, where the protests are taking place, and is under a very heavy load.

She says Sundström can communicate, but has not been able to say what happened when he was attacked. It’s also unclear when he can be brought home to Sweden.

When Sundström went missing Thursday, his mobile phone was answered by an Arabic speaker who said that he had been taken by the Egyptian military. Hundreds of journalists have been attacked in Cairo, allegedly by supporters of President Hosni Mubarak, the target of the pro-democracy demonstrations.
