mobile broadband for rural areas

Auction for 4G net at end of month

Published lördag 5 februari 2011 kl 17.21

Swedish IT Minister Anna-Karin Hatt tells Swedish Radio News that licences for 4G mobile broadband networks are to be auctioned off here at the end of February.

The new allocations, using spectrum previously used by analog television, will expand the 4G network outside of the major populated areas into rural areas which today have no mobile broadband. Today there are nearly 3000 Swedish households without broadband access.

The bandwidth will be sold off on February 28 in six different blocks, with around US$ 20 million as the starting bid for each. One of the blocks will come with special conditions ensuring coverage of households that currently lack broadband access.
