Investigation into nuclear fuel violations

A prosecutor has begun a preliminary investigation of the nuclear fuel subsidiary of Westinghouse in Västerås. Swedish Radio Västmanland reports that the company is suspected of violating the law on nuclear safety, following a complaint from the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority.

According to reports, following a power failure last Summer, several alarm systems at the Westinghouse facility stopped working. Westinghouse produces around 450 tons of nuclear fuel a year at the Västerås facility.
