Young man dies in Swedish cell

A 27-year-old man detained for alcohol abuse has died in a jail cell in the southern city of Malmö.

Ambulance personnel found the bleeding man dead in the cell. Police say they are no indications of self-inflicted wounds or suicide.

Some critics maintain that police do not keep a sufficient watch on detainees needing medical care or who are potential suicides. Others insist that such patients be brought to hospitals where they can get immediate care if necessary instead of to a jail cell.
