Unfinished tests

More anti-mosquito spraying

Published torsdag 5 maj 2011 kl 11.23

The Swedish government has granted an ok. to spraying even larger areas of central Sweden with anti-mosquito chemicals this year - even though tests to see how environmentally harmful this might be have not yet been turned in.

The minister of the environment Andreas Carlgren states that this is because of the troublesome insects plaguing human beings, livestock and wildlife - with serious consequences for farming and tourism in the region.

He adds that he sees no real worries over any harmful effects from the 10-yearl-old program to kill mosquito larvae in lakes and pools - and that this is nevertheless only a short-term solution to the problem.

He maintains that the real problem is the flooding caused by the hydrolytic power companies - giving the mosquitoes more breeding grounds.
