Crime victims have trouble collecting damages

Crime victims often face difficulty in getting the damages they are awarded, according to a new report by the Swedish National Audit Office. The Audit Office reports that the victims must often chase the money themselves and there is not enough information about the process.

According to the report, the authoriities need to do more to facilitate the process and give better infromation to the victims.

"It's not right that the victims themselves have to be the driving force in getting their damages paid," says Jan Landahl from the Audit Office.

The Justice minister Beatrice Ask agrees with the criticism and promises to simplify the procedure.
