Girl forced to pay back welfare bill?

A nine year old disabled girl could be forced to pay back up to eighty thousand dollars to the Swedish state, after her parents wrongly claimed financial assistance for looking after her.

Both parents have been paid by the state to act as her personal assistants, but her father has spent long periods abroad, and the social insurance agency has now decided that she can therefore get by with only one assistant and has been fraudulently claiming state funds. But due to the current rules, it is the the recipient of the assistance that has to pay back any misspent funds, not the person that gets paid, reports Swedish Radio News in Halland.

Local police chief Karl Arne Ockell told the station he is shocked at what some parents do to their children, in this case a girl that has had no understanding of what has been going on.
