Orrefors announces end of its cut crystal

The end may be coming for classical cut glass crystal at the centuries-old Orrefors Kosta Boda glass workers in southern Sweden.

The company says there is a dwindling demand for the world-famous crystal and that some 30 glass cutters risk losing their jobs.

The glass works are popular tourist attractions especially in the summer - with Swedish and foreign tourists watching the glass-blowers in action - and buying crystal wine glasses, dishes, candle holders and glass art at much-reduced prices compared to the London and New York retail markets.
