New mosque in Gothenburg

Police plan for protests

Police in the Swedish west coast city of Gothenburg are bracing for tomorrow's demonstrations both in favor and against the building of a new mosque in the city.

A number of foreign demonstrators are expected to be joining the event.

The police believe this will be the biggest demonstration in Gothenburg since the protests against the European Union summit in the city in 2001, which saw violent clashes in the streets, many injured and arrested, and smashed shop and bank windows in the heart of town.
