Machine set on fire in Swedish mine

Mining companies around the world are following today's unique fire in the Tist mines outside of the Swedish town of Sala northwest of Stockholm.

In order to observe how fire spreads in a mine, an old 30-ton loading machine is burning 56 meters below ground.

The initiators say they will market the results of the fire to companies all over the world.

The head of  mining operations  there says he was at first sceptical over the idea - but concludes that he and others can also learn a lot about combating fires deep under the surface of the earth.

Operations earlier mined for dolomite marble.
