Internet sales on the increase

Online shopping is increasing rapidly in Sweden, but still accounts for just a small part of the retail sector here.

According to the latest e-barometer, during the first quarter of this year Internet purchases increased by more than 10 percent, compared to the same period last year.

Nearly seven out of ten Swedes bought something online during the quarter.

Dominating these purchases were consumer electronics, books, films, CDs and computer games.

Nevertheless, the Internet accounted for just 5 percent of total retail sales here. Nearly half of the 100 billion dollars spent during the quarter was for food.

The e-barometer is jointly compiled by the Post Office, the branch organization Swedish Distance Sellers, and the Swedish Retail Institute.
